Open your site

Zeku works on the Astro project you already have. It doesn’t import or copy anything: it opens the folder and edits the files in place.

  1. Open Zeku and click Open folder on the welcome screen.
  2. Choose your Astro project’s root folder, the one with astro.config.mjs in it.
  3. Zeku finds your content folder, usually src/content, and opens the dashboard.

Recent projects are listed on the welcome screen. To switch projects later, use Open another folder from the command palette (Ctrl+P). To keep two projects open side by side, use New window (Ctrl+Shift+N).

  • Collections come from src/content.config.ts. Each collection you declare there becomes a tab on the dashboard, with the entries its loader points at.
  • Field types come from the JSON schemas Astro writes to .astro/collections/ when you run astro sync or astro dev. Run either one once after you change your schema, and Zeku types every frontmatter field to match. Without them, Zeku reads your schema from the config source and guesses the rest from your existing posts.
  • URLs come from your routes in src/pages, so the dashboard, the preview, and the SEO audit show each entry’s real address. See How Zeku reads your site.

Zeku reads all of this again every time you open the project, so a change to your config shows up the next time you open it. To read it again without reopening, run Re-learn project model from the command palette.

Zeku writes the markdown and MDX files you edit, the images you add, and nothing else in your site, except in one folder:

  • .zeku/ holds choices that belong to the project rather than to your computer, such as which collections the dashboard shows and the field types you set. Zeku creates it only when you change one of those, and it’s safe to commit, so the same choices follow the project to another computer.

Everything that belongs to your computer, such as recent projects, window size, and your spelling dictionary, stays in Zeku’s own app data and never reaches your repo.
