Install Zeku

Zeku runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Every download starts a 14-day free trial with every feature, and nothing is locked after it. One license covers Zeku on any of the three platforms.

Windows

Zeku runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11.

1. Download the installer from zeku.dev/download.
2. Run Zeku_<version>_x64-setup.exe. It installs for your account and doesn’t need administrator rights.
3. Open Zeku from the Start menu.

Zeku draws with Microsoft Edge WebView2, which Windows 11 already has. On Windows 10, the installer fetches it if it’s missing.

macOS

Zeku runs on macOS 10.15 Catalina and later, natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel. The Mac app is in beta.

The recommended way to install it is one command in Terminal:

curl -fsSL https://zeku.dev/install.sh | bash

The command installs Zeku in /Applications, or in ~/Applications if your account can’t write to /Applications, and opens it. You can read the script at zeku.dev/install.sh before you run it.

Why a command instead of the .dmg

The Mac app isn’t notarized by Apple yet. macOS checks notarization only for apps a browser downloaded, and files that curl downloads skip that check, so the command installs Zeku without a warning. It’s the same app as the .dmg.

To use the .dmg instead, download it from zeku.dev/download and drag Zeku to Applications. The first time you open it, macOS says it can’t verify the app:

1. Click Done.
2. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll to the message about Zeku, and click Open Anyway.
3. Open Zeku again and confirm.

On macOS 14 and earlier, you can right-click Zeku in Applications and choose Open instead.

Linux

Zeku runs on 64-bit x86 computers with glibc 2.35 or later, such as Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36, current Arch, or newer. There’s no ARM build yet. Linux is in beta.

The recommended way to install it is one command in a terminal:

curl -fsSL https://zeku.dev/install.sh | bash

The command installs the Zeku AppImage for your account, with no sudo:

• The app goes in ~/.local/share/zeku.
• Zeku appears in your applications menu.
• ~/.local/bin/zeku starts it from a terminal.

If FUSE isn’t set up, the launcher unpacks the AppImage to a temporary folder instead, which works without installing anything and starts a few seconds slower. Installing fuse3 from your package manager makes it start faster.

You can also download a package from zeku.dev/download:

The .deb and .rpm install WebKitGTK 4.1 as a dependency. The AppImage carries its own.

Updates

Zeku checks for a new version once a day and asks before installing it. To check now, open Settings > About and click Check for updates. On Windows, macOS, and the Linux AppImage, an update installs in the background and reopens Zeku, with no installer window.

The Linux .deb and .rpm don’t update themselves. When a new version is out, Zeku links to the download page, and you install the newer package over the old one.
